Bruins captain Brad Marchand leaves Penguins game with injury

Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand is unlikely to return to Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins after suffering an upper-body injury in the first period.

Just 5:56 in, Marchand collided awkwardly with the Penguins’ P.O Joseph. He came up slowly after being hit shoulder-first into the corner boards. Joseph initially got his stick caught in the Marchand’s skates before finishing his hit. There was no called penalty on the play.

Marchand played just 2:18 before leaving with the injury. The Bruins, who were already short-handed following an injury to fellow forward Trent Frederic earlier this week, entered the first intermission with a 2-0 lead. The team announced his status before the start of the second period.

Joseph also suffered an upper body injury and his return was ruled out.
